Glasgow/Agartala: Tripura’s Asmita Dey scripted history by becoming the first Indian judoka to reach the final of the Commonwealth Games in the women’s 48kg category. The 23-year-old from Belonia defeated strong opponents to assure India of its first-ever judo medal at the Games, with the gold medal bout scheduled later in the day.
Asmita’s remarkable run drew praise from across Tripura, where sports enthusiasts and public representatives hailed her achievement. Having overcome financial hardships and personal loss, her performance has become an inspiration for young athletes across the Northeast.
