Meta Apologises to India Over Temporary Restriction of PM Modi’s Facebook Post

New Delhi: Meta has formally apologised to the Government of India after a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefly restricted due to what the company described as an operational error. The apology was conveyed by Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Joel Kaplan, to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The issue had sparked criticism after the Prime Minister’s post became temporarily unavailable to some users. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sought an explanation from the company, following which Meta acknowledged the mistake.

Meta reiterated its commitment to improving content moderation systems and ensuring that such incidents do not recur. The company stated that it continues to work closely with Indian authorities on issues related to platform safety and compliance.

The incident comes amid increased scrutiny of social media platforms in India regarding content moderation, misinformation and digital safety.
