Data Breach Linked to Kudankulam Nuclear Plant Under Investigation

New Delhi: Indian authorities are investigating a cybersecurity incident after thousands of documents allegedly linked to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant surfaced on the dark web following a ransomware attack on systems belonging to Reliance Infrastructure, one of the project’s contractors. The leaked files reportedly include engineering drawings, supplier details and project-related documents.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) stated that the incident has not compromised any sensitive nuclear or operational security information. The agency clarified that the leaked material does not affect the safe operation of the country’s largest nuclear power station.

Reliance Infrastructure acknowledged a partial data breach involving a third-party data centre service provider and said the matter had been reported to the relevant government authorities. The company added that necessary cybersecurity measures had been initiated to contain the incident and investigate its cause.

Cybersecurity experts said the incident highlights the growing threat of ransomware attacks targeting critical infrastructure and the need for stronger digital security measures across strategic sectors. Authorities continue to examine the authenticity and scope of the leaked documents while monitoring any potential risks.
