India Assigns Official Names to 27 Arunachal Pradesh Locations

New Delhi/Itanagar: The Government of India has assigned standard official names to 27 locations and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh, with the updated names being incorporated into Survey of India records.

The move includes several strategically important locations along the India-China border, including mountain passes, villages and other geographical features. The government said the names were finalised in consultation with the Arunachal Pradesh government.

Among the locations are Longju, Maja and Bisa, strategically significant border villages, along with passes including Dzo La, Riza La and Pukur La. The list also includes Thag La, associated with the 1962 India-China conflict.

The decision comes against the backdrop of China’s repeated attempts to assign Chinese names to places in Arunachal Pradesh. India has consistently rejected such moves, maintaining that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country.

Officials said formally recording the locations on Survey of India maps will improve their recognition and geographical awareness while reinforcing India’s position regarding its territorial boundaries.
