The Government of India has officially lifted the temporary restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel across the country with effect from 1 July 2026. The restrictions had been introduced earlier in June to prevent local fuel shortages following disruptions in global supply chains caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, fuel supplies have now stabilized, allowing normal retail sales to resume. During the restriction period, commercial buyers faced limits on diesel purchases, while retail fuel stations were instructed to prioritize supplies for the general public.
Officials said the decision reflects improved availability of petroleum products and smoother imports after global shipping conditions began to normalize. Oil marketing companies have also assured consumers that there is sufficient stock to meet domestic demand without disruption.
Industry experts believe that restoring normal fuel sales will support transportation, logistics and industrial activities across the country. The government has stated that it will continue to closely monitor international energy markets and take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies.
