Budget Has Enough Buffers to Handle Inflation Risks: Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Union Budget has sufficient financial buffers to absorb the impact of rising inflation and global uncertainties. Speaking on 26 July 2026, she stated that the government does not see any immediate need to revise budget estimates despite concerns over erratic monsoon conditions and higher crude oil prices.

The Finance Minister acknowledged that inflation continues to be influenced by external factors, including volatile energy prices and weather-related disruptions affecting agriculture. However, she expressed confidence that the government’s fiscal planning is robust enough to manage these challenges.

Sitharaman also said the Centre remains committed to maintaining fiscal discipline while supporting economic growth through infrastructure investment and welfare programmes. Economists believe the government’s confidence reflects expectations of stable revenue collection and continued economic resilience.
