Agartala Tea Auction Centre Set to Become Operational by September-End

Agartala: Tripura is preparing to operationalise the Agartala Tea Auction Centre by the end of September 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening the state’s tea industry and creating a more organised marketplace for tea producers.

A delegation from Tripura recently studied the functioning of the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) to understand its auction procedures, infrastructure and operational model. The experience is expected to help the state establish an efficient system suited to local tea producers.

The proposed auction centre is expected to provide tea growers with a more direct and structured platform to market their produce. It could also reduce dependence on markets outside the state and improve opportunities for local producers.

The initiative is part of Tripura’s broader efforts to strengthen its tea economy and increase the commercial value of the state’s tea production. Officials are working towards completing the necessary arrangements before the proposed September-end operational target.

The development could benefit small and medium tea growers by improving market access and creating greater visibility for Tripura’s tea in domestic markets.
