PM Modi Arrives in Australia for Annual Leaders’ Summit with Anthony Albanese

Melbourne: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Melbourne on 8 July 2026 on the second leg of his three-nation tour after concluding his visit to Indonesia. He was received by Australian officials and members of the Indian diaspora ahead of the Australia–India Annual Leaders’ Summit with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The summit is expected to focus on expanding the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Key agenda items include defence and security cooperation, trade and investment, critical minerals, clean energy, education, technology and people-to-people ties. Both countries are also expected to discuss regional developments in the Indo-Pacific.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Albanese and interact with the Indian community in Australia. The visit aims to further strengthen economic cooperation and deepen collaboration in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, digital innovation and supply chain resilience.

India and Australia have significantly expanded their partnership in recent years through cooperation in defence, trade and strategic affairs. Officials from both countries expressed confidence that the summit would produce new initiatives to enhance bilateral relations and contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
