Mumbai: Heavy monsoon rains continued to batter Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra on 5 July 2026, leading to severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions and interruptions to rail and air services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall warnings for Mumbai and nearby districts as intense monsoon activity persisted.
Authorities ordered the closure of schools in affected areas as a precautionary measure, while emergency teams were deployed to clear flooded roads and remove fallen trees. Several suburban train services experienced delays, and commuters were advised to avoid unnecessary travel. Landslides were also reported in some parts of the state due to continuous rainfall.
Civic officials urged residents living in low-lying areas to remain alert and follow weather advisories issued by the IMD. Disaster response teams remained on standby as rainfall was expected to continue over the next 24 hours, with authorities closely monitoring rivers and vulnerable locations.
The southwest monsoon has remained highly active across western and central India, bringing widespread rainfall to Maharashtra, Gujarat and neighbouring states. Officials have advised the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and avoid flooded roads and landslide-prone areas until conditions improve.
