India Lifts Emergency Gas Supply Curbs as Middle East LNG Shipments Resume

The Government of India has withdrawn temporary restrictions on natural gas supplies after liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from the Middle East resumed. The emergency measures had been introduced earlier this year following supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz caused by regional tensions.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the return of regular LNG cargoes has significantly improved domestic supply, allowing the government to restore normal gas distribution. During the disruption, gas allocation had been prioritised for essential sectors such as households, fertilizer plants and power generation.

Officials said the decision reflects improving global energy supply conditions and India’s efforts to maintain energy security during periods of geopolitical uncertainty. Energy companies are expected to resume normal commercial operations as supply chains stabilise.

Industry experts believe that restoring normal gas supplies will benefit industrial consumers and help support economic activity. The government has stated that it will continue monitoring international energy markets and take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
