New Delhi: India clarified on 4 August 2026 that it has no involvement in a planned virtual address by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, scheduled to be hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia. The clarification came after Bangladesh sought India’s position on the event.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the programme is being organised by an independent organisation and is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Government of India. Officials emphasised that the event is a private initiative and does not reflect the government’s official stance.
The development comes amid evolving diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh following political changes in Dhaka. India reiterated its commitment to maintaining constructive bilateral ties and respecting the internal affairs of neighbouring countries.
